Does My Child Really Need to See a Pediatric Ophthalmologist?

Let’s get the short answer out of the way first and then we will dive into the whys behind it.

If your child has a medical eye issue or has been referred to an ophthalmologist by a primary care physician or optometrist, then yes, seeing a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in pediatrics is your best bet. A pediatric ophthalmologist will have the skills and qualifications to treat your child’s unique ocular condition.

And the why? Well, children are not just small adults. They can’t always say what is bothering them. They can’t always answer medical questions and are not always able to be patient and cooperative during a comprehensive eye exam. Pediatric ophthalmologists know how to examine and treat children in a way that makes them feel more relaxed and more likely to cooperate.

At Center For Sight Las Vegas, we are proud to provide advanced pediatric eye care with the help of our pediatric ophthalmologists Dr. Selim T. Koseoglu and Dr. Jeylan El-Mansoury.

Dr. Selim (as he is called by his young patients) is a board-certified ophthalmologist with more than 20 years of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric eye conditions including amblyopia. A seasoned surgeon and clinician, he is a trusted expert on all pediatric cases.

Dr. El-Mansoury is a board-certified ophthalmologist with fellowship training in pediatrics, neuro-ophthalmology and corneal issues. She also specializes in soft tissue oculoplastic surgery. Although Dr. El-Mansoury also sees our adult patients, she has a special affinity for and fellowship training in the care of little eyes.
