Michael Pernula, MD

Dr. Michael Pernula received his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Nevada School of Medicine where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society, reserved for the top physicians in each graduating class. He then completed his residency in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Arizona. Dr. Pernula moved back to Las Vegas in 2015 and joined Center For Sight.

Background

Dr. Pernula specializes in the treatment and diagnosis of eye diseases. Dr. Pernula has a passion for refractive cataract surgery including laser assisted surgery and premium intraocular lenses. He also specializes in medical and surgical treatments of glaucoma, including laser procedures and micro-invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). Dr. Pernula also brings his expertise in eyelid diseases and procedures, treatment of dry eye, diabetic eye care, macular degeneration, and an array of general ophthalmology procedures. He is a clinical investigator for numerous ongoing research studies here at Center for Sight. These studies keep our office at the forefront of new treatments in the field of ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Pernula found his passion to study the eye while he was in high school, being intrigued with the complexity of the eye as well as recognizing the importance of vision for quality of life. Throughout his studies and career, he has been fascinated by the depth of knowledge, evolving research, and technological advancements in the field ophthalmology.

Outside of ophthalmology, Dr. Pernula loves spending time with his son. Together they enjoy camping, hiking, skiing, climbing, and fly fishing.
