What Is 20/20 Vision And Can I Achieve It?

The short answer is “yes” you can achieve 20/20 vision. Did you know that millions of LASIK procedures have been performed in the U.S.? The FDA reports 98% of patients achieve 20/20 or better vision after LASIK. It is the most popular type of refractive surgery, correcting nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism. For lucky patients like you, Center For Sight, Las Vegas, will make your world “20/happy” with a LASIK vision alternative to wearing eyeglasses or contacts.

What is 20/20 Vision?

According to the American Optometric Association, 20/20 vision is a term describing normal visual acuity—the clarity or sharpness of vision—measured at a distance of 20 feet. Fun fact: Visual acuity is quantified with Snellen fractions, e.g. 20/20 named after Herman Snellen, a Dutch ophthalmologist who developed the system in 1862.

Specifically, visual acuity is measured by your ability to identify letters or numbers on a standardized eye chart from a specific viewing distance, tested under high contrast conditions, e.g. letters are black and background is white. The top number refers to your distance in feet from the chart. The bottom indicates the distance at which a person with normal eyesight can read the same line.

Having 20/20 vision or average vision does not necessarily mean perfect vision. A patient can have 20/15 vision which is sharper than average; 20/15 is when you can see a line on the eye chart at 20 feet that the average person can only see when they are 15 feet away.

Center For Sight Advantage

LASIK (Laser-Assisted in Situ-Keratomileusis) is a type of refractive surgery for laser vision correction. It is a minimally invasive and highly effective outpatient procedure that is completed within 10-15 minutes for both eyes.

At Center For Sight, we use Advanced CustomVue Technology, a LASIK procedure that combines the WaveScan WaveFront® System and the STAR S4 IR® Excimer Laser. Your LASIK vision will be improved using two basic steps: 1) A thin flap is created on the cornea; 2) The cornea is reshaped using a laser. Note: Center For Sight is a blade-free environment. Bladeless LASIK offers the most advanced option for vision correction.

Our team of board-certified ophthalmologists uses an IntraLase FS Femtosecond Laser to ensure precision from the surgeon’s hands to a computer-controlled laser system. We use the STAR S4 IR® Excimer Laser to gently reshape the cornea, removing microscopic amounts of corneal tissue in the process. We use WaveFront technology to measure the unique “fingerprint” of your eye, and provide the needed information to discern the location where refractive errors cause poor vision. Center For Sight’s solution is a customized LASIK surgery to achieve the best possible visual outcome—making your world 20/happy!

Benefits of LASIK at Center For Sight: Immediate results, quick procedure, little to no pain, minimal downtime, restored peripheral vision and long-term life of LASIK. For most patients, this is a permanent solution and the need for glasses or contacts may be eliminated entirely.

Center For Sight has been recognized with the Best of Las Vegas Gold Winner Award in Las Vegas Review-Journal for Best Eyecare/Eye Doctor for the second year in a row.
