Tired of Reading Glasses?

Over-40 Vision (Presbyopia)

If you are over the age of 40, you might have noticed your vision has changed. Maybe you are having difficulty reading the text on your phone, your book, menu or computer screen. Maybe you have reading glasses in your purse, on your nightstand, on your desk, in your car and… on your head! Everywhere!

This condition is called age-related presbyopia, also known as “over-40 vision.” It is unavoidable and there is nothing you can do to prevent it.

Presby-WHAT?!?

The eye’s natural lens is normally flexible. It works much like a camera lens to automatically adjust and focus vision. This means you can automatically and easily switch your gaze from something near to something far away.

But over time, the lens in your eye begins to stiffen and is unable to bend into the right shape to bring close objects into focus. Helllooooo presbyopia.

Presbyopia is a natural part of aging and continues to progress over time. For example, someone who is 45 may only notice it when trying to read small print in low light situations. However, someone who is 50 may need to use reading glasses multiple times throughout the day.

The good news: The doctors at Center For Sight can help. Our Near Vision Correction Education Center is the place to come for information and solutions.
