Dr. Pernula is a board-eligible ophthalmologist at Center For Sight – Las Vegas. He has special interest in advanced laser refractive cataract surgery with intraocular lens implants and also performs cosmetic procedures, dry eye treatment and an array of general ophthalmology procedures.
In whatever he does, Dr. Pernula is consistently driven to achieve the highest standards in patient care. “I love my job,” said Dr. Pernula. “There is never a day that I ever feel any regret about my decision to pursue ophthalmology. Restoring sight and helping people achieve better vision than they’ve ever had in their entire lives gives me great satisfaction and purpose.”
His interest in the eye started at a young age; he found his passion in a high school biology class in Wyoming, where he grew up. He planned to pursue training in optometry but a college professor of a pre-med physics class took special interest in young Dr. Pernula and convinced him ophthalmology would be a better use of his mind and skills. The rest is history.
Dr. Pernula received his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Nevada School of Medicine, where he also completed an internship in internal medicine. While there, he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, a professional medical organization that recognizes and advocates for excellence in scholarship and the highest ideals in the profession of medicine. He then completed his residency training in ophthalmology at the University of Arizona in Tucson.
Dr. Pernula was delighted to join the Center For Sight team in 2015 as Las Vegas appeals to his outdoor nature. Dr. Pernula spends his free time camping, hiking, skiing, traditional rock climbing, mountaineering and bouldering. He has a five-year-old son.
